Bill, a WW2 veteran, of 97 years young was struggling to maintain his garden, which had become overgrown and quite drab, definitely not an inviting space to enjoy a cuppa! His Carer Jo, asked for our help, and just like the legendary Alan Titchmarsh, Callum, Jo (Family & Carer Support) and a group of amazing volunteers rose to the challenge.

Jo, The Families and Carers Support Officer secured donations of gravel, plants, pots and lighting from local businesses Whites Skips and Morrisons. And, on what turned out to be a very stormy Friday morning, with lots of hard work and several tea breaks later! the transformation took place. The result is a colourful oasis for Bill and his carer, which is easy to maintain, in fact Bill said he was looking forward to start pottering in the garden again, which will be great for his mental and physical health.

The outcome of this support has had an added bonus, with the involvement of Bills neighbours, who came out to chat to us, donated things for the garden and offered refreshment, hopefully making veterans like Bill more visible to their communities.
