What Do We Do?
Goodwin has always been a local organisation, looking out for local people. We’re really excited about Know Your Neighbourhood as a way to bring people together in a time when so many feel isolated. People will always need people, and Know Your Neighbourhood helps us lead happy and healthy lives, full of social connection.
Most of our sessions run at The Octagon, an amazing resource for our area used by everyone from teenagers to retirees, from all walks of life. So what’s happening? Scroll down to read more…
What Can We Offer?
- Soup Social – Every Tuesday 12:30 – 2:30pm, upstairs at the Octagon
- Crafts – Every Wednesday 1 – 3pm, upstairs at the Octagon
- Allotment session – Every Thursday 10am – 12 noon, allotments behind the Octagon
- Bingo – Every Thursday 1-3pm, upstairs at the Octagon

A Word From Janet
A Know Your Neighbourhood Volunteer
My name is Janet. I was encouraged to go along to the Octagon last year. As I was new to the area I didn’t know anyone. When I went along, I was introduced to a lady called Ruth. She’s a kind, friendly lady. Ruth got me to join in on the activities they run there, and to meet others.
Now, I love Arts and Crafts with Katy and Kieran. They’ve got me to try new things, and they’ve brought the artistic side out of me. I’m not feeling as lonely, and I’m more confident. I was asked by Ruth if I’d like to volunteer to show people how to repair, make and alter their garments. I said yes as I was a sewing machinist. I love coming to the Octagon, it’s a happy, friendly place, and a way to meet new people, or get help if needed, and find someone to talk to.
