Community to benefit from refurbished Multi Use Games Area
Goodwin Development Trust has secured a £29,593 grant from Biffa Award; a multi-million pound fund that helps to build communities and transform lives through awarding grants to community and environmental projects across the UK, as part of the Landfill Communities Fund.
The project, which was awarded funding under Biffa Award’s Recreation theme and Hull City Council’s Ward Budget, will aim to restore the much-loved Multi Use Games Area (MUGA) after suffering flood damage during the storms of November 2019. The MUGA is used by the local community and in particular the young people who access the Hull City Council Funded Turf youth Club. The MUGA, located on the grounds of the Octagon, on Walker Street in Hull, is now ready to be used by community members and groups and young people and is totally free to use!
Goodwin are hosting a launch event on the Friday 17th of February between 1pm and 3pm where they will have sports sessions for the older-young people Goodwin support via their ESOL and Refugees support provision. A special football session, facilitated by our Partners at Tiger’s Trust, for the younger people who access the Turf youth club. Also our partners Revolution will be on site with a Cycle Maintenance Hub for people to bring their bikes to be serviced and find out about cycling in general. And for those who are green fingered , an outdoor social prescribing session will be delivered on our allotment plots and on the Villa Community Gardens both of which are adjacent to our renovated MUGA.

Landfill Communities Fund
The Landfill Communities Fund (LCF) is an innovative tax credit scheme enabling operators (LOs) to contribute money to organisations enrolled with ENTRUST as Environmental Bodies (EBs). EBs use this funding for a wide range of community and environmental projects in the vicinity of landfill sites. LOs are able to claim a credit (currently 4.2%) against their landfill tax liability for 90% of the contributions they make. Since its inception in 1996, over £1.4 billion has been spent on more than 51,000 projects across the UK.
