ESTATE OF THE NATION
WHAT IS ESTATE OF THE NATION?
We aim to make a major and positive contribution to Hull’s plans for world-class arts programming, build the capacity of practitioners and communities, build new partnerships and nurture on-going ones, touch as many lives as possible, and produce great, relevant art.
Launched in 2011, Estate of the Nation is a proud, peaceful and bold rally cry on the part of those streets, neighbourhoods and communities that are socially and economically excluded, stereotyped and demonised as the wealth gap widens. It connects people together on a positive platform with a view to reversing the disconnection.
We take great pride in challenging convention and delivering projects which maximise community engagement, whether it’s an award-winning documentary about young slam-poets, Lego bird boxes in mermaid trees, a sell-out Remembrance Week performance of music, poetry and images from the Great War, or turning 1970s high-rise blocks into night-time jewels using colour and light.
NEW FOR 2018/2019
Youth Arts Takeover is a 2-year arts project co-designed with young people in Hull, connecting them to high quality participatory arts experiences. YAT supports Hull2017 legacy and will be the flagship in Goodwin’s Estate of the Nation arts programme 2018-21.
It comprises the Beats Bus orchestra which provides music making sessions for people with no musical experience and Hidden Talents which will give young people to curate year arts events! YAT will inspire and equip young people as Hull’s future arts/cultural workforce.
